Library of the Realm

Literature

This section contains a list of every written book that exists in the realm, with brief descriptions. Copies of each book can be found in the Aridnea City Library, unless the book is unsigned.

Aridnea Enchiridion: 3rd Edition

This is the most up to date guide book on the lands of 'Greater Aridnea'. It has a much improved layout that is easier to read, with more of a focus on utility rather than history, in an attempt to be more succinct and useful. However there are a few things mentioned in the book that have changed since writing. Located at the Outside Inn.

Everburn Enchiridion

Guide book to Everburn and it's local area. Somewhat out of date since the expansion of North Everburn. Located inside Everburn's Church of Psyche

Adventurer's Enchiridion

Gameplay guide, particularly in the subjects of XP and levelling. Details locations of player built XP farms & 'dungeon' type game structures discovered through the world, and provides strategies on how to approach these encounters. Still mostly up to date, however some dungeons mentioned have been conquered, new XP farms have been built, and new dungeons have been found. Copies are located in nearly every major settlement

The Known World: Travelogue of the Realm

Cartography/Natural World guide book, which includes a brief description of the landscape of every map that makes up the 'Grand Map of the Realm', along with a cartography style guide for anyone pursuing the art or helping expand the Grand Map. Slightly out of date, there have been several new maps added to the Grand Map, and some name/settlement updates, as well as a few more undocumented excursions far outside of the current mapped lands. Located in the Grand Map Room of the Realm, as well as Sakura Valley's community centre.

Aridnea Code of Laws

Codice of Aridnean laws, practised since it's founding, now formally documented. Located in the Civic Council Room in Aridnea

Ice Boat Racing

Guide to the sport of Ice Boat Racing, including rules and regulations, as well as tips to help you improve. Located at the starting mark of the Aridnean Ice Boat Track

PERIODICALS:

Aridnea Gazette

Originally created to reduce sign lag in the spawn zone, this is a newspaper that will be updated at least quarterly. Primarily focused on Greater Aridnea, the scope is now expanding to include more realm wide news. A news stand has been constructed in a central point of every major settlement, containing the current Aridnea Gazette, along with old editions in nearby storage

Merchant's Gazette

Trading and commodity tips newspaper. Lists known locations of populated villages and player made villages/hubs, with some tips as to what sells well and what doesn't. Will also expand to include known large resource sites, and potential prospects sighted by players around the realm. Currently located at the Aridnea Bank/Merchant's Guild Hall, but will soon be dispersed to major settlements throughout the realm.

UNSIGNED BOOKS:

(these are able to be read on lecterns, but not copied)

Sakura Valley History (?)

An incomplete history/guide book to Sakura Valley that is in place at the Sakura Valley Community Centre

Sakura Valley Gazette

Sakura Valley's own gazette, in place at the town notice board near the Traveller's Inn.

Deepslate Peak History (?)

Brief history of the Deepslate Peak settlement, in place at the entrance.

ANTIQUATED & OUT OF PRINT BOOKS:

Aridnea Enchiridion: 1st Edition Vol 1 & 2

The original guide book of Aridnea, detailing all buildings & amenities, with a second volume (book) added as the need arose. Sequestered in the Aridnea Library

Aridnea Enchiridion: 2nd Edition

The updated second edition of the Aridnean guide book, also severely out of date. Sequestered in the Aridnea Library

NPCs

This section details all NPCs added to the realm, with further information at the end. The implementation of limited NPCs is a slow work in progress and subject to change.

Outside Innkeeper

GIF of the Innkeeper with some dialogue options shown

A dialogue NPC located at the Outside Inn, provides some basic direction/information for essential amenities directly at spawn. Considering expanding this idea into a series of tutorial-like dialogue NPCs in the town square, and/or just standalone dialogue NPCs at points of interest (Librarians at libraries, Guildmasters at guild halls, Innkeepers at inns, etc.)

The Exchanger

GIF of the Exchanger with some dialogue options shown

A trading NPC that will 'exchange' 32 gold ingots for 32 iron, while explaining he understands it's a bad deal but you probably need the iron more. Code for this NPC is here

Further Information

I'm happy to add NPCs for anyone, but there are some limitations to consider:

  • my ability to program what you want (check the video guides below to get an idea of what's possible, or visit NPCs already in world to see their abilities)
  • limited dialogue tree (just the first interaction and a sentence or so after you click a button. plus there's only space for 3 buttons I think)
  • fairness and good gameplay (requesting a guy who gives a stack of diamonds in exchange for dirt isnt fair. I also don't think it's good for gameplay if an NPC we make sells stuff a villager can already sell)
  • vanilla texture of NPCs, and limited styles (the NPCs are all vanilla minecraft textured, so they stand out compared to the texture pack we use, there also isn't a lot of styles that fit our world, I would say 75% of them are really out of place like robots and modern looking scientists)
